CRISIS!

Poetry Expo 24

Upon every re-read this poem, written in one go, at the peak of frustration two years ago, and born out of depression, agoraphobia and a generalised fear of the future, three feelings that unfortunately bring together many at this stage of history (but especially the young), sends the author right back into the moment of quickly typing each word, trying to get out each emotional nuance. Struggling with menta health during Covid, the author found solace in the poems of Dylan Thomas - his dark symbolisms and his search for Hope despite the raging pessimism. So, both consciously and not, their mind felt the need to make small references to his "Do not go gentle into that good night". Inspired also by Jack Kerouac's approach to life, writing, and stream of consciousness allowed them to fully let go while writing "CRISIS!".

Micol Maraglino

Micol Maraglino is a Photography student at an Art Academy in the South of Italy, where she was born in 2002. She graduated during the Covid-19 pandemic, in England, where she studied A-Level English Literature, Photography and Religious Studies. In 2021 the Milan-based publishing house “Accento” selected her prose work “Primo” and included it in a short-stories anthology called “Quasi di Nascosto”. Her works often present religious references due to her Catholic upbringing, as well as a more atheistic take on life and the human condition. She likes to write poems (both in English and in Italian) about personal experiences that can encapsulate young generations’ unease in today’s world, using both hand-drawn and photographic elements to express these themes on social media. In the next few years, upon graduation, she would like to pursue a career in journalism.
