Poetry Expo 24

My poems and photographs explore the human condition of finding ourselves "in the shit" (in stecore - an alchemical term) and the work of life to transmute that. When each individual does this work, they become intimately acquainted with themselves. Only when individuals become strong in themselves, can community flourish. This is the way to form culture - to find the knowing that is intrinsically within each of us - each a world of reality - and share this. The world and our lives are aids to this process. Hence words join with visuals through the medium of the artist. Like a bushman hunter, tracking an animal through the bush, the artist picks up clues - a clump of hair, a drop of blood - in the world, which leads them to their quarry - the poem, with which they hope to nourish the human clan. My poems and photographs reflect this coalescence of time into the present here and now and aim to reproduce the way the poem came into being, slowing down the experience of receiving it, to allow for a trance state, the Great Dance, as bushman hunting was known (taken from the movie, of the same name, by Craig and Damon Foster).

The project is part of the subthemes Mental health narratives in poetry and Literature as a tool for social equality.
